People ImpactedProgram Overview
Hurricane Iota, a category 5 hurricane has affected 1.7 million people in Guatamela. Destroying 79,000 homes and displacing over 300,000 people now living in shelters with limited access to food and water.
We’ve returned from Guatemala as part of our Hurricane Iota response. This first trip was to execute an overall needs assessment while doing some small scale implementations to plant seeds for a long-term recovery program within certain communities.
2 primary communities have been identified (for now) that we will be aiming to support in the coming months. One is a riverside community and the other is a remote mountain community. Both were utterly devastated by the storm, leaving their water supply/infrastructure, among other things, 100% compromised.
Our impact goal for our next phase is finite - 550 households between the two communities (approx $35K total or $63 per household to help every family in both communities).
Thank you to those who have stepped up and supported this effort so far, and to those of you who will continue to in the future.
