Fundraiser Overview

Hello guys,

I'm Naiade, 26, I was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil. I am a student of Environment & Energy at Hochschule Rhein Waal in Kamp-lintfort, Germany. I'm going back to my homeland Brazil next year, 2018, from February till the end of June, to perform activities related to my internship semester and I won't be going alone though. My husband, Valentin Janosch from Germany, also an environmental scientist with focus on coastal protection, is also coming along to write his final thesis about the environmental issues on the coastal zone of Sao Paulo, Brazil - Sao Sebastiao region. We want to create a positive social-environmental impact in that region while we stay in there but for that we need your help!

About my internship project: I will do a voluntary internship with focus on spreading environmental education that can empower local women and children to take part on the fight against climate change. There will be an educational program passed in the form o a relaxed workshop to local women and children. This project proposes a simple and local solution for tackling this issue of lack of local environmental knowledge. Building up a greenhouse with the community to spread the environmental knowledge especially among children and women of the region of the coastal zone, north-shore of Sao Paulo State, Sao Sebastiao. This greenhouse will be sustainable and made only of recycled material: plastic bottles and bamboo trees. In addition to providing material and methods to the construction, a group of women will receive training on low-carbon life, up-cycling techniques to increase their income, environment and health topics and other techniques for climate adaptation. This project aims to provide them with tools for to combat climate change impacts, safeguarding theirs and their families well-being, consequently t will contribute for a more comprehensive environmental education of the next generation.

The plan for the water filters: They should be incorporated in the green house design with already contains rain water catching system. Like this would immensely benefit the local schools which suffer from lack of clean water sources. This would consequently tackle the drinking water problems which affect children health in the area of Sao Sebastiao.

The region: São Sebastião is a Brazilian municipality, located on the southeast coast of Brazil, in the state of Sao Paulo and covered by the most vibrant Atlantic forest. It was an indigenous region before the local port began to flourish and the indigenous community was put into slavery. The region became the first port in Brazil in term of slaves trafficking the economical value of this region has been tied up to this local port since its foundation, bring along industrialization and at same time all the negative social and environmental impacts. Nowadays it has become a region extremely prone to landslides, floods and oil spills, which endanger the local people and affects negatively the local fauna and flora. Besides that, those environmental impacts result in countless economic losses which impact the population already living in poverty for decades. By bringing them environmental knowledge, we'll be therefore providing the locals with a tool to live a more independent and sustainable lifestyle and enable them to preserve and combat the local port pollution impacts.

This project will be done in close partnership with the community trying to troubleshoot the local problems with the best locally-adapted solutions.

Please, if you could please contribute with even a little at all it will have a great impact on the community of Sao Sebastiao. We guarantee you that!

Thank you so much for taking time to read about this cause.

Have an amazing day!
