Project Overview
Hey, Guys, my name is Giselle and I am heading to Puerto Rico with my partner Hector and my nine-year-old son Gabriel on November 5th. My family is from Puerto Rico as well as Hectors' and my mom currently lives in Caguas without access to Clean water, more than a million people in Puerto Rico have gone weeks without running water. My objective is to deliver as many water filters to people as we possibly can who don't have access to fresh water as well as immediate supplies. Technology has given us the ability to communicate on a Global Scale and we can use this to our advantage to save lives. In my opinion, water is a god given right like air, there is absolutely no reason that ANYONE should die from dirty water when solutions, like the simple water filtration devices, exist. Our goal is to connect this brilliant technology that already exists with the people who need it most. Could you believe not having fresh water? We use water for EVERYTHING......Each filter gives water to 100 people for 5 years. It's easy and we hope you can help us make a difference. It is inspiring to know that one person can provide a hundred people with clean water for five years just by including one water filter in their luggage the next time they travel. The devastation from the Caribbean hurricanes is utterly massive in scale and there are needs everywhere. It's easy to get overwhelmed by the scale of it all, but we can help them have clean access to water. We are working with Waves 4 Water who created this incredible technology, user-friendly devices that can make almost any contaminated water, potable. This hurricane season has been devastating for Puerto Rico, first, it was hit by Hurricane Irma a huge Category 5 whose eye passed just north of the island. That storm left 1 million people without electricity. By the time Maria hit, 60,000 people were still without electricity. That means there are many people on the island who haven't had power for more than a month. There's not enough water or food on the island and with your help, we can bring filters and supplies. These are communities that already needed our program prior to any disaster, making them the least equipped to handle a catastrophe. Thousands are currently subjected to the harsh conditions of cramped makeshift emergency camps without adequate essential supplies including and especially water. Power will be out for months in some parts and as of October 2, four people died and 10 were sickened with leptospirosis a bacterial illness spreading in the aftermath of the storm through contact with contaminated animal urine either directly or via water or soil. Officials estimate that more than 1 in 3 residents in Puerto Rico don't have clean water. In many places, there's still no water to drink, bathe in or to flush toilets. Please help us a family from Jersey make a difference, I know together we can help save lives. We will keep you guys informed with videos of our mission and thank you for your support.
