Leyte Island of the Philippines are struggling with a shortage of portable water and electricity after a magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit the City on July 6, 2017. People are now using river and spring water for their daily water consumption. But still, the water is muddy due to the siltation of soil particles as affected by the tectonic movements. Affected were mostly mountainous communities that were only accessible by motorcycles with rough roads. Recently those communities were forced to evacuate due to the rampant aftershocks. Based on initial reports from PRC Operation Center (as of July 15, 2017), more than 400 families from the municipality of Jaro, Kananga and Ormoc City have been displaced by the quake and have been staying in six evacuation center in the Province.

The mentioned municipalities are just 3 to 4 hours travel from my current office.
